As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, we often hear that immunocompromised individuals are at higher risk of becoming very ill from COVID-19. Being an Advanced Heart Failure/Transplant Specialist, Kathy Crispell, MD, DCM Foundation Board Member, has been asked several times what it means to be immunocompromised, and specifically, if this applies to dilated cardiomyopathy patients.
Dr. Crispell explains in the video below that having DCM alone does not mean someone is immunocompromised. However, she also shares why DCM patients may be at greater risk for becoming very ill from COVID-19 and how they can best protect themselves during this pandemic.
Please use the DCM Foundation Forums or comment in the space below to ask questions about living with DCM during these interesting times. We also continue to post information in this blog to support those with DCM during this pandemic.
